St. Crispin's and "Trick-or-Treat for
the Food Shelf" Sunday
October 28, 2007
Saint Crispin's Day, October 25, is the traditional feast day of the saints
Crispin and Crispinian, twins who in legend were shoemakers
martyred in 286 AD. Although the historical existence of the
twins is now in doubt, many Episcopal
and Anglican churches have continued to celebrate the traditions of
the feast day.
In this spirit, on Sunday, October 28, 2007,
Children's Ministry again collected gently used shoes. The shoes
were donated to a local used clothing store, Neighbors Helping Neighbors,
that provides financial support, as well as clothing, to those in
need.
A St. Crispin foot blessing was also offered.
Children were encouraged to wear their
non-violent costumes to church.
During Sunday School, kindergarteners through junior high youth helped
collect food for the local food
shelf.
