The Old Testament tells the story of God's chosen people Israel,
and is filled with great narratives and memorable characters. In this
five part series 6 to 7 pm on Wednesdays, April 11 to May 9, 2007, we
surveyed the major people, places, and events in the Hebrew Bible from an
adult perspective.
This 5-part series was developed to meet a growing need for biblical
literacy. Many Christians today are unfamiliar with the stories and
history that form the foundation of their faith that are found in the
Hebrew Bible, or Old Testament. The goals for this series were to acquaint
the audience with the essential stories found in the Hebrew Bible and to
do so in a way that would tune their ears to biblical cadences and
rhythms. Each session generally included:
a stripped-down version of the NRSV text of the Bible presented as a
dramatic reading
a PowerPoint presentation providing visual information that coordinated
with the dramatic reading
a handout of “Top Texts”
additional handouts (sessions 1 & 3)
.
In addition, the PowerPoints as presented made use of the resources
provided in the NIV Archaeological Study Bible, Zondervan (2005).
The series was written and led by Linda Monyak.
